Overall, Ever Crisis is an easy recommendation for fans of Final Fantasy VII — in any form — if you go into it knowing what to expect with its mobile caveats. So long as you aren’t vulnerable to excessive spending to your detriment, it brings three Final Fantasy VII IPs to modern audiences while giving them a consistent aesthetic that helps them all feel truly connected. Applibot’s other Square Enix mobile project, NieR Re[in]carnation, has been running for over two years now, so that helps establish some faith that Ever Crisis won’t close down when we blink. Games like this are best enjoyed as a slow grind over a long period of time — months and even years — so bear this in mind when deciding how much you want to commit to it. Enjoy the game for what it is, progression walls ‘n’ all, and perhaps come back to it every few months to see what’s new.
Final Fantasy VII: Ever Crisis is releasing at a precarious time for mobile games. What it’s promising is enticing, and I’ve had a lot of fun with it thus far. But when Square themselves just recently shut down multiple other titles, some less than a full year into service, it’s hard to be that optimistic about its future. I hope their gamble here pays off, and this becomes as big a hit as they’re clearly looking for because it’s one of the best in its genre of the year.
The game was like "reimagined" version of the OG (1997), but about gacha I want to make it easy get my favorable items and weapons. And make more F2p for all players
Final Fantasy VII: Ever Crisis delivers an interesting take on the storied franchise that should appeal to fans of the series despite it not being the best way to experience the totality of its story.
Final Fantasy VII: Ever Crisis is a surprisingly solid mobile title that successfully attempts to provide a fresh way to relive the Final Fantasy VII saga. It's primarily aimed at those already familiar with the series rather than newcomers, but given the title's popularity, it still appeals to a significant audience. The real downsides are some structural issues and the intrusiveness of the gacha element, along with the inevitable risk that the game may become pay-to-win in the long run.
Final Fantasy VII: Ever Crisis could and should have been the most convenient and immediate solution to review the entire Compilation of Final Fantasy VII, especially given what Square Enix is trying to achieve with the disputed Remake Trilogy. Unfortunately, however, the Japanese giant has bet on a damn confusing structure and a gacha component that risk resulting in the detestable phenomenon of pay-to-win. It's a real shame because, despite the limits imposed by the poor customization of the units, which during battles limits the feasible strategies and opens the door to monotony, the combat system of Final Fantasy VII: Ever Crisis is very valid and what's more the product can count on a truly delightful artistic direction. If for our part we feel like not recommending it to newbies, who due to the episodic formula would understand little or nothing about the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII, historical fans could instead find it a pleasant pastime and, between one mission and another, discover some new details on their favorites.
Final Fantasy 7 Ever Crisis is not a missed opportunity due to its gacha game nature, but rather because of the fragmented and anachronistic execution that defines its entire structure. The confusing menus and interfaces in which the experience unfolds place monetization above gameplay, embroidering a passive combat system onto a series of repetitive activities. The extraordinary strength of the original material - beautifully designed, animated, and scored - shines through in the context of the new original stories. However, instead of elevating the overall structure, it ends up making us remember what this production could have been.
Final Fantasy 7: Ever Crisis is just a gacha game. Nothing more, nothing less. It’s not the worst thing I’ve ever seen, and it does offer adequate fanservice for those who love Cloud and friends. But otherwise, Ever Crisis doesn’t do anything that other free mobile games already do better. Maybe it’s worth a download for bored Final Fantasy fans, but otherwise, you can spend both your time and money better elsewhere.
I love Final Fantasy since 1997. My Name Web Name is "Cloud" because of that Game.
Game is fun but has a lot of Problems too.
+ Absolut not a Fan of Mobile Games.
So 5/10 for me. For me it is absolut half good and half bad.
It is a slow mess with too much dialogue and nonsense. Clearly a cash grab. I would expect that it would at least be better than the original game from 25 years ago and it is nowhere near in terms of excitement. Maybe it gets better but I do not think I will continue to play it after the first mission. Seeing the same thing again and again gets repetitive. We have now beaten the scorpion first boss in three iterations. Cmon now.
The graphics and animations are gorgeous and charming while the music preserves the nostalgic appeal of OG FFVII.
The battle system is an intriguing homage to OG's turn-based style - the ATB (Active Time Battle) plus remembering to switch between attack and defense mode is a bit overwhelming, but for those more accustom to these sorts of battle styles I'm sure it'll be fun for you. The semi and auto-battle options are a nice form of accessibility to help those who might struggle navigating the battle system, and the ability to fast-forward the battle speed can either provide an extra challenge for manual players or save time for more automatic players.
As with FFVII The First Soldier, the gacha and monetary aspects are still quite predatory. SE have improved in that obtaining skins, gear and other items is possible by playing the game itself, but it requires extensively grinding the same few disjointed levels for countless hours while constant pop-ups pressure players to use real money to acquire them instead.
Cutscenes are often one of the highlights of video games, but for me they are the only part of EC that is remotely engaging. The endless menus, items, real money shops and pop-ups seem to make up at least 80% of the game, and most of the gameplay consists of random grinding levels with the same few enemies. The episodic nature of the stories (plus the fact that most story levels have either only dialogue or dialogue-to-battle, with only a few adding dungeon/world exploration in between) further makes this game feel very disjointed, undermining the narrative cohesion and player immersion. I am fine with the abridged nature of the stories, as most of the omissions are not overly important to the main plot.
Overall the gameplay itself is pretty good/average to me, but the predatory gacha model and disjointed base content plus the overwhelming menus and pop-ups. It's pretty clear that the real goal of the game is to pay-to-win rather than play-to-win, a malicious tactic considering many players are continuing to experience the physical, mental and/or financial consequences of the ongoing p@ndemic. Play it if these elements don't bother you, but I'd say it's not worth forking out real money for and you can watch most of the story/cutscene content on YouTube - please remember The First Soldier and SE's numerous other live service games which inexplicably shut down leaving countless players' purchases wasted.
Damn you, Enix, you will make this role-playing game quite well if you don't stuff the pay-to-win system in such a miserable way. No matter how short of money your company is, you should not use this method, it's a waste of money and time.
Account link error caused players to lose hundreds of hours of progress, and paid content. Devs are not talking about the issue. for 4 days now since the time of this posting the players have been locked out.
